Paddling and hiking on Rörö

7 hours incl. breaks for snack and lunch

Rörö is the northernmost island in our municipality. In the nature reserve on the west side you can hike along spectacular shingle fields and on the way we can greet both grazing Icelandic horses and sheep from a distance. In the far north we can see the mighty Carlsten Fortress on Marstrand Island. From Västeräng it is about 5 km to paddle to Rörö. We take a coffee break (brought or optional) on the way there and eat our lunch (brought or optional) on Rörö before, during or after our hike, by agreement. The tour requires some paddling experience (10 km paddling). Remember to bring sturdy hiking shoes for this tour (3-7 km hiking).

Learn to kayak! Beginner course 2-6 people.

4-5 hours incl. coffee break

In peace and quiet, you will learn the basics of paddling technique, how to get in and out of the kayak without tipping over, how to maneuver the kayak, and how to teach each other. We start in very shallow water in the bay, where you can feel safe. Once you get to know the limits and possibilities of the kayak, we go out a bit and slowly make a short trip around the islets. After a beach stop for a leg stretch and a coffee break, we finish by practicing peer rescues in deeper water (if you want).

Drybag, drysuit, neoprene shoes and gloves can be rented on site!

Price
1095 SEK per participant (minimum 2 registered, maximum 6).

General tour details

All tours start from Västeräng on Hälsö, unless otherwise agreed. The unique surroundings on the west side of Hälsö offer perfect conditions for both beginners and experienced paddlers. There are plenty of islets and reefs, a lot of shallow bays that separate other boat traffic, but there is also direct access to the open sea with only the horizon to look at. We visit the crabs, nesting seabirds and swaying seaweed forests, and when we land on the rocks, colorful lichens rustle against our feet.

We gather and go through the tour, then we help carry the kayaks to the beach (about 30 meters) and after the tour we help carry back, rinse and dry the kayaks. The route is adapted according to your experience and wishes, as well as to weather conditions.

This includes:
- kayak, paddle, cockpit, life jacket, cap
- Personal guide and paddling instructor with solid knowledge of the area's unique nature, as well as paddling technique and safety.

Options to rent:
- drybag, - cell phone case, - dry suit (mandatory option at a water temperature below 15 degrees Celcius), - neoprene shoes (mandatory to wear over the dry suit), - neoprene gloves If you want to use your own kayak, you are of course welcome to do so.

Optional packed lunch:
Via Skärgårdshotell's kitchen Skafferiet I can offer two kinds of vegetarian sandwiches. These are accompanied by coffee or tea and some fruit. Order via my booking button.

Important information

I do not require any prior knowledge; I have tours for both beginners and experienced swimmers. However, I assume that you know how to swim and that you are at least 15 years old. Those who are under 15 years old can be accompanied by a parent in the double kayak or in a single kayak under the parent's responsibility. You should wear functional clothing (training or leisure wear) that is easy to move around in and dries faster (than cotton, which cools you down when it gets wet). You should bring water, sunglasses, cap or similar, swimming shoes (neoprene shoes are available for rent in limited supply - remember to wear a pair of thin socks in these shoes. The socks will get wet.), swimwear, rainwear, sunscreen and a change of clothes to pack in a tight pack.

I have kayaks in different sizes to accommodate different sized people. However, the maximum limit on my kayaks is a height of about 195 cm and a weight of about 100 kg. Please state your height, weight and shoe size when booking.

Please read these safety conditions before the kayak tour.

Please prepare yourself by reading the general safety conditions before the kayak tour.

I am confident in performing peer rescue if needed, I also have a tow line and bilge pump with me out, as well as a first aid kit. I have updated CPR skills and GSRT skills (basic safety and rescue techniques) under the auspices of the Swedish Canoe Association. I have completed Friluftsfrämjandet's kayak leader training, level 1 and 2, and NOL's WFA (Wilderness First Aid). Last but not least, I am also a certified nature guide, according to the industry organization Naturturismföretagen's criteria, and am thus considered a professional nature guide.
